 Lake Tahoe is a large Fresh water lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. At a surface elevation of 6,225 ft (1,897 m), it is located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City. Lake Tahoe is the largest Alpine Lake in North America. Its depth is 1,645 ft (501 m), making it the deepest in the United States after Carter Lake

* Water clarity has decreased from over 100 feet in the 1960s to about 70 feet today. A 2009 report based on 8 years of testing has shown a stabilization in lake clarity.
* Average annual precipitation varies from over 55 inches in western watersheds to about 26 inches on the eastern shores.
* 71 stunning miles of shoreline encircle the lake.
* Lake Tahoe has played a supporting role in many television and film productions, including Bonanza and The Godfather Part II.
* Lake Tahoe never freezes.
