Turnip Rock: A Geologic Wonder!

The Turnip rock (a.k.a Pointe aux Barque) is located at the shores of Lake Huron, about 3 kilometers north-east to Port Austin, Michigan, USA.
It got it’s name from it’s turnip-like shape, the rich vegetation and big trees on top of the rock’s surface emphasized the likeness! It is formed by many years of the waves erosion.

The land around Turnip Rock is private property, so the only way to get to the rock is by boats or Kayaks. This trip is for single kayak use only. The trail takes about three hours to complete and is usually accessible from March till mid November.

Tandem kayak are not allowed to Turnip Rock.  They are only allowed on the Broken Rocks trail.
In the winter time most of the lake is frozen, so you cannot really get there on water.

The owners of the surrounding properties take great care of the land and it is very recommended to respect their space by not trespassing or littering.
